Baseball scoreboard: White Co. gets 1st 6-3A win; GHS, Chestatee, Jax Co., NoFo get region wins; Hab Central, Dawson, Johnson lose

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — White County snapped a five-game losing and got its first Region 6-3A win of the year with a 9-4 victory over Dawson County on Friday on the road.

The win for the Warriors (6-8, 1-5 Region 6-3A) also get the Tigers (10-5, 5-1 Region 6-3A) from a second consecutive series sweep to open their region schedule.

White County used a five-run second inning to grab the lead, with Brayden Roach, Cooper Garrett, and Sawyer Gailey singled all getting RBI hits in the inning and also taking advantage of a big Dawson County error.

The Tigers cut the Warriors lead to 6-4 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and a Warriors’ error. But White County scored a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to seal the win.

Shelton Ramey got the win for White County, giving up four runs on six hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked three. 

Will Battles took the loss for Dawson County, allowing five runs on just two hits but walked four in 1 1/3 innings.

Garrett finished with three RBI to lead White County. Shelton knocked in a pair of runs for the Warriors.

Dawson County next travels to Chestatee on Tuesday to open a Region 6-3A series while White County plays host to North Hall on Tuesday to open a 6-3A series.


GAINESVILLE 7,
MILTON 4

The Red Elephants won their second consecutive game and won their first Region 7-5A series of the season on Friday on the road. 

Gainesville (4-11, 2-4 Region 7-5A) trailed 4-2 after the fourth but erupted for four runs in the fifth. Beckett Brown and Adrian Medina both ripped two-run singles in the inning to grab the lead.

Daniel Rico got the win for Gainesville but it didn’t come without some tense moments in the seventh. Rico surrendered five hits and four runs (just one earned) and fanned five in six innings before giving way to Medina for the final inning.

The Eagles (6-10, 4-5 Region 7-5A) loaded the bases with no outs on a hit batter, a single, and a walk. But Medina got a fielder’s choice out at home, a popup to second, and then struck out the final batter to get the save.

Medina and Cohen Miller both had two hits for Gainesville. Brown and Medina each drove in two runs for the Red Elephants.

Gainesville next will open a three-game series with last place Lanier on Monday at Ivey-Watson.


WINDER-BARROW 2,
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 1

The Raiders saw their two-game win streak to open Region 8-5A come to an end in the Bulldoggs final at-bat.

Cam Hodge belted  a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to propel Winder-Barrow to its first region win of the season.

Habersham Central (8-6, 2-1 Region 8-5A) led 1-0 in the third on a Mason Witt RBI single. And that looked like it was going to be enough for Maverick Chitwood, who had scattered five hits and walked none until the seventh.

But he walked Kaleb Sorrell to lead off the seventh and two batters later Hodge got the game-winner.

The raiders will face another tough road trip on Monday traveling to Class 5A third-ranked and defending state champion Loganville to open a two-game series.


CHESTATEE 16,
JOHNSON 2 (5 inn)

The War Eagles completed a sweep of the Knights on Friday at the Lynn Cottrell Complex.

Ethan Dunn had a hit and three RBI and Eli Chaffin and Cort Hagerman each had a hit and two RBI to lead Chestatee (4-11, 3-3 Region 6-3A) to its third straight win.

Chestatee scored in every inning, blowing open a 3-0 game with six runs in the third and seven in the fourth.

Chafin got the win scattering two hits and allowing no earned runs in four innings. He struck out eight.

The War Eagles will open a huge three-game series with Dawson County on the road on Tuesday.


JACKSON COUNTY 19,
ALCOVY 0 (3 inn)

The Panthers scored eight runs in the second and 11 in the third to take a three inning win over Alcovy on Friday to sweep their two-game Region 8-5A series.

Bryce Garrison, Colin Price, and Carson Stokes all had three hits and combined for 9 RBI to lead a 12-hit Panthers attack.

Jack Teague allowed just one hit and fanned four in getting the win in three innings of work.

Jackson County (8-5, 2-0 Region 8-5A) stayed in the top three in the region standings with the win.

The Panthers next will travel to Clarke Central on Monday to open another Region 8-5A series.


NORTH FORSYTH 11,
NORTH ATLANTA 2

The Class 6A seventh-ranked Raiders moved to .500 in Region 6-6A and clinched its first series of the season with a dominating win at home.

The victory gave North Forsyth (11-6, 3-3 Region 6-6A) a 2-1 series win over North Atlanta (9-4, 4-2 Region 6-6A).

The Raiders trailed 2-0 after the Warriors opening frame but answered with four runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by RBI hits from Brady Holbrook, Ellis Alldredge, and Bryson Germanenko for a 4-2 lead. North Forsyth scored three in the fourth, one in the fifth, and three more in the sixth.

That was more than enough for Brayden Seabold, who got the win giving up two runs on four hits and striking out six. In five innings. four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six and walking none. Hank Ray tossed two scoreless innings to close out the game.

Holbrook and Alldredge each had three hits, Ozzie Patterson had two hits, and Zach Feinzig and Coolter Vela each drove in two runs for the Raiders.

North Forsyth next will open a three-game series on the road against West Forsyth (9-5, 4-1 Region 6-6A) with a chance to climb into second place.
