Soccer: GAC-Johnson 1st place battles in 6-3A highlight Friday action

Several regions are starting to take shape around the northeast Georgia area for playoff spots.

But Region 6-3A on Friday will have its most important night of the season so far when Greater Atlanta Christian makes the trek up I-985 to The Dungeon to take on Johnson.

Both games will be for the outright lead in the region standings. The girls' game kicks off at 5:30 p.m., with the boys to follow.

The GAC girls (8-0, 3-0 Region 6-3A) are ranked No. 1 in the Class A-3A Private rankings (scorbord.com poll) and have allowed just three goals on the season. The Lady Knights (5-2, 2-0 Region 6-3A) are ranked seventh in Class 3A and are averaging 3.1 goals/game on the season.

In the boys' matchup, something will definitely have to give.

Johnson (5-2, 2-0 Region 6-3A) is ranked second in Class 3A and looks to have found its stride of late. The Knights have won four straight and scored 25 goals (6.1 gpg) and allowed just one goal in that span. 

GAC (6-2, 3-0 Region 6-3A) is ranked sixth in Class A-3A Private rankings and also comes in riding a four-game win streak. The Spartans have outscored their opponents 20-3 during their win streak.

But those aren’t the only key region matchups on Friday. The Habersham Central boys (5-2, 3-0 Region 8-5A) and Class 5A fifth-ranked Clarke Central (8-0, 2-0 Region 6-6A) will duke it out at Raider Stadium for first place. But the Raiders offense will have its biggest challenge of the season. The Gladiators have surrendered just four goals so far in 2025 and no more than one in any game this season.

The North Forsyth boys (5-3, 1-2 Region 6-6A) will play host to Denmark (5-2, 1-2 Region 6-6A), with both teams looking to get into the upper tier of the region standings.
