Football: Rabun County hires state champion coach to lead program

By AccessWDUN Staff

TIGER, GA – Rabun County didn't waste any time filling its head football coaching vacancy.

Former Hart Country, Valdosta and Peach County head coach Rance Gillespie was approved by the board of education on Monday as the 17th head coach to lead the Wildcats.

Gillespie spent the last four years at Brookstone, a GIAA school in Columbus. Throughout his 22-year head coaching career -- 32 overall -- he's won two state titles (Peach County 2005 & 2006), five region championships, and a 170-91 career coaching record. He also served as offensive coordinator at Georgia Southern in 2016.

The Rabun County job came open last week when Michael Davis announced his retirement.
