White County Public Safety's Emergency Management has received two national recognitions for public safety and severe weather preparedness.
According to a release, the county has been renewed as a StormReady® Community by the National Weather Service and has been designated as a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The StormReady® program aims to help communities improve their hazardous weather operations through advanced planning, emergency communication systems and public education. The county has maintained their status with the program since 2007.
The county’s designation as a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador is a part of an NOAA initiative to recognize organizations that promote “preparedness and resilience to extreme weather, water climate events.”
As an ambassador, White County will collaborate with the administration to enhance community preparedness by sharing official weather safety messaging with residents, encouraging best practices for weather resilience and conducting outreach to vulnerable groups.
“White County’s recognition as a StormReady® Community and a WRN Ambassador underscores its leadership in emergency preparedness,” a release from the county said. “With nearly 98% of all Presidential disaster declarations being weather-related, these proactive initiatives play a crucial role in protecting lives and property.”
