The Buford baseball team put on an offensive showcase on the road Wednesday night, routing Mountain View 16-2.
A massive 10-run fourth inning sealed the win for the Wolves, with Cannon Goldin leading the charge by driving in four runs, including a three-run homer in the first inning.
Goldin’s big blast to right field set the tone early, giving the Wolves the big lead. He later added an RBI walk in the fourth inning. Buford’s explosive fourth inning featured key hits from Ayden Lockett, Ryan Johansen, Leo Garcia, Brody Hurd, Dexter McCleon Jr. and Parks Cleveland, piling on 10 runs to put the game out of reach.
The Wolves offense was relentless, racking up 15 hits. Garcia led the way with three hits, while Lockett, McCleon Jr., and Johansen each had multiple hits.
McCleon Jr. secured the win on the mound, striking out six over three innings while allowing just three hits and two runs. Walker Taulbee provided solid relief, throwing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Buford (5-1, 2-0 Region 8-6A) will look to continue their dominance when they face Mountain View again on Friday.
DAWSON COUNTY 5,
JEFFERSON 4
The Tigers (4-4) battled back from multiple deficits to secure a 5-4 victory over Jefferson on Wednesday night at home.
Jefferson (4-5) wasted no time getting on the board as Rett Hemphill launched a solo home run to left field in the top of the first inning. Dawson County responded in the second when Carson Sosebee evened the score with a solo shot of his own to left.
The Dragons reclaimed the lead in the third when Chris Thomas sent another solo home run over the left-field fence, followed by a sacrifice fly from Ryan Reed to extend the Jefferson lead to 3-1. However, Dawson County answered right back in the bottom half, tying the game at 3-3 with key singles, including an RBI hit from Elijah Odom.
Jefferson again jumped ahead in the fourth after Steven Tavares connected on the third solo home run of the night, giving the Dragons a 4-3 advantage. But Dawson County refused to back down, rallying in the bottom of the frame. Dylan Edwards grounded into a fielder's choice to bring home a run, and Jacson Rickett followed with a sacrifice fly to put the Tigers ahead for good at 5-4.
Preston Bannister earned the win for Dawson County, pitching two shutout innings with one strikeout and one walk. Case Gravitt picked up the save after Eli Phillips also contributed a scoreless inning of relief. Starter Anden Wallace allowed just one run on one hit over one inning, striking out one.
Jefferson's Kade Seabolt took the loss, throwing three innings and allowing five runs on six hits while striking out five.
