Girls 2nd round playoffs: White Co. knocked out by Baldwin; Hab Central falls at home

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — The White County girls were able to overcome one early deficit to Baldwin. But a second one late in the game was too much in what turned into a 62-47 loss on the road in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs Saturday afternoon.

The 10th-seeded Lady Warriors trailed 18-2 in the first quarter before storming back with a 10-0 run to close out the period. White County continued to chip away, closing to within 30-29 by halftime.

But the seventh-seeded Bravettes used their advantage inside to pull in the second half. Baldwin extended its lead to 43-39 by the end of the third quarter and held White County to just 8 points in the fourth to pull away for the win.

Baldwin used its size to go to the free throw line 23 times in the game to just 7 for the Lady Warriors.

Emma Lightsey finished with 15 points and Kylie Watkins had 14 to lead White County in the final games.

Baldwin moves on to the Elite 8 and will take on No. 1 seed Heritage-Catoosa next week.

HABERSHAM CENTRAL 35

The Lady Raiders could not overcome a poor first half in falling to the Lady Pirates at home on Saturday in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Brunswick held Habersham Central to just 10 first half points while building a 12-point lead at halftime. But the Lady Raiders came out swinging in the second half.

Sadie Chambers and Tess Murdock combined for 13 points in the third quarter as the Lady Raiders used a 19-9 run to pull within 31-29. But the Lady Pirates were able to clamp down again in the fourth quarter, holding Habersham Central to just 6 points to hold on for the win.

Chambers finished with 13 points and Murdock had 9 for Habersham Central.

Patrice Mungin led Brunswick with 14 points. Martin Davis had 11 for the Lady Pirates.
