The City of Sky Valley has named a new chief of police.
Ronald Baumes, who has previously served as an officer and lieutenant for the department, will lead the agency. Baumes has been with the department since 2011.
The city shared in a Facebook post Tuesday Chief Baumes is an Army veteran who began his law enforcement career with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office in 2005.
“Please join us in congratulating Chief Baumes on his new role,” the city said in its announcement. “We look forward to his leadership and service to our community.”
Baumes and his wife Annette have been married for 30 years. The couple has six children, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The post said he enjoys camping and fishing in his free time.
