MILTON, Ga. — The Gainesville boys overcame an early deficit to pull away from Seckinger for a 63-48 win in the semifinals of the Region 7-5A tournament Thursday night.
KJ White kept the Red Elephants (18-7) in the game in the first half scoring 13 of his 15 points before halftime. Gainesville trailed 19-18 after the opening period but would eventually take a 32-26 lead into the break.
Charlie Gersmehl took over from there. The junior forward poured in 13 of his hame-high 23 points in a decisive 22-11 third quarter as the Red Elephants extended their lead to 54-37 heading into the fourth quarter.
KJ Banks led Seckinger (15-12) with 11 points.
Gainesville will play for the 7-5A title on Friday, taking on Lanier, who knocked off No. 1 seed Milton 62-56 in the other semifinal.
Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. at Milton High School.
