Lumpkin County High School to host college football game

By AccessWDUN Staff

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — For the first time in history, a college football game will be played in Dahlonega as Lumpkin County has agreed to host a game on October 11, 2025.

The game will be contested between The Apprentice School Builders out of Newport News, Va., and the Lighthouse Christian College Makos out of Pensacola, Fla. Both schools compete in the New South Athletic Conference, a league for small schools that fall outside of the NCAA and NAIA.

"The opportunity to play at Lumpkin County is a great chance to showcase college football in Northeast Georgia," said Walker McCrary, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications at Apprentice. "Personally, it's special for me to be able to bring college football to my hometown for the first time ever and put LCHS in the spotlight."

The Apprentice School is a trade school in Newport News, with each of its students working on the job of building aircraft carriers and submarines, primarily for the United States Navy. Lighthouse Christian is an online Christian business school with the goal of bringing new ideas to the world that will contribute to the betterment of society.

Last season, the Builders went 6-5, winning the Neptune Bowl to wrap up their 105th season of football. The Makos went 8-1 in their first season as a program in 2024.

More information about ticket sales will come as the season approaches this fall.
