Despite a decent-sized schedule for the first Saturday of the New Year, there's only one region matchup on the docket. However, there are several intriguing non-region games.
The lone region showdown has Rabun County traveling to Commerce in region 8-A Division 1. All four teams are looking to keep pace in a competitive region on both sides.
The Gainesville girls travel to Class 6A No. 9 Buford in a rare matchup between the two area city schools. The unranked Buford boys will take on Class 4A No. 3 North Oconee in the Sandy Spiel Showcase at Monroe Area High School.
East Forsyth will play host to Jefferson in a pair of interesting non-region contests.
