NGHS to open new Urgent Care facility in Oakwood on Monday

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Northeast Georgia Health System will open its eleventh Urgent Care facility Monday.

The new facility will be located in Oakwood on Mundy Mill Road near the entrance to the University of North Georgia's Gainesville campus in a building already being used by some Northeast Georgia Physicians Group offices. Sandy Smith, administrative director for NGHS urgent care and occupational medicine, said the goal is to provide more accessibility for urgent care services in the South Hall area.

"We do have the urgent cares in Gainesville, Buford and Braselton, so this (Oakwood) urgent care is kind of that central location between all of them," Smith said. "All three of those locations are very busy, especially during this cold and flu season...so we're really excited to not only have an option closer to some of the folks that live in that area, but also to be able to alleviate some of the pressure on those Gainesville and Braselton clinics that are just really getting hammered."

NGHS urgent care centers are for treatment of minor injuries or illnesses that do not require immediate emergency room care.

"If you've got that cough or cold, we're happy to see you. If you've injured yourself and need an x-ray, we're happy to take care of you," Smith said.

The Oakwood facility will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with last appointments accepted at 7:45 p.m. each day. Northeast Georgia Health System also offers online check-ins to allow patients who know they are coming to get on the wait list.

NGHS also has urgent care centers operating in Cleveland, Bethlehem, Dacula, Dahlonega and Dawsonville. To see more details about the facilities, click here.
