The City of Gainesville’s annual curbside leaf collection service will return for residents within the city’s limits on Oct 1.
The biweekly service from the Gainesville Public Works department will remain in effect through Jan. 2025. As the Street Maintenance Division prepares to provide the service, the city reminded residents of the program's guidelines.
According to a release from the city, leaves are to be placed in long narrow piles behind the curb, with all debris such as sticks, limbs and trash removed from the piles. The city also requested leaves do not cover gutters or be placed in the road to avoid traffic hazards.
The curbside leaf collection schedule will divide the city into two zones.
Zone 1, which contains portions of Gainesville west of Thompson Bridge Rd.,Green Street and south along E.E. Butler Parkway will receive the service the first and third week of each month.
The Zones’s service dates will be as followed: Oct. 1-4, Oct. 14-18, Nov. 4-8, Nov. 18-22, Dec. 2-6, Dec. 16-20, Jan. 6-10, 2025 and Jan. 21-24, 2025 (holiday observed Jan. 20, 2025).
Zone 2 will be served the second and fourth week of each month. Zone 2 includes all portions of the city that are east of Thompson Bridge Road (state Route 60), along Green Street and E.E. Butler Parkway (U.S. Route 129); plus all portions of the City across the lake at Thompson Bridge Road.
Zone 2 will be serviced on the following days: Oct. 7-11, Oct. 21-25, Nov. 12-15 (holiday observed Nov. 11), Nov. 25-27 (holiday observed Nov. 28-29), Dec. 9-13, Dec. 23-27 (holiday observed Dec. 24-25), Jan. 13-17, 2025 and Jan. 27-31, 2025.
