JEFFERSON, Ga. — Jefferson wasted little time in showing that any thoughts the Dragons were vulnerable heading into Region 8-3A play were premature.
Rett Hemphill returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, scored on a 28-yard TD run six minutes later, and Gavin Markey scored on a pair of 1-yard TD runs all in the first quarter as Jefferson rolled to a stunning 49-7 win over West Hall on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
The Class 3A third-ranked Dragons’ (4-2, 1-0 Region 8-3A) blitz eventually led to a 49-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
The Spartans (4-2, 0-1 Region 8-3A) struggled to get anything going against a Jefferson defense that shut down Class 3A leading rusher Elijah Hayes and quarterback Brett Sturm. West Hall came in as the third-highest scoring tam in Class 3A at 39.2 points/game.
The Dragons also got a 2-yard TD run from Mickell Pittman and Markey connected with Talan Childress on a 9-yard TD pass. Dallas Russell added a 3-yard TD run for Jefferson.
