Softball: NoFo, Bluff, Buford, Chestatee all win

COAL MOUNTAIN, Ga. — North Forsyth won its fourth straight game and moved into a tie for third place with a 6-3 win over North Atlanta on Thursday at home.

The Lady Raiders (8-11, 7-4 Region 6-6A) fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first but scored once in the first and three in the second, taking advantage of three North Atlanta errors in the inning. North Forsyth extended its lead to 5-1 in the fifth.

North Atlanta scored two runs in the top of the sixth on a home run to center field by Sophie Yano but could get no closer.

Ella Rouse got the win for North Forsyth, allowing just two earned runs on 10 hits in a complete game. She fanned seven and walked none.

Artemis Eaton and Bailey each had two hits for North Forsyth.

The Lady Raiders next will play host to first-place Denmark on Monday.


CHEROKEE BLUFF 12,
WEST HALL 0

The Lady Bears exploded for a seven-run first inning en route to a win in four innings.

The win kept Bluff (13-5, 7-1 Region 8-3A) in first place in the region standings and was its fifth straight win.

Claire Carlson had three hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs to lead the offense. Mac Warren also singled in two runs for the Lady Bears.

Bailey Greason got the win, scattering four hits and fanning eight.


BUFORD 10,
COLLINS HILL 3

The top-ranked Wolves used a combination of three home runs, four doubles, and the arm of junior hurler Addie Rackely to knock off Collins Hill on the road Thursday. 

It was the Wolves' (14-1, 7-0 Region 8-6A) seventh region win, and they remain three games ahead of the rest of the field in Region 8-6A. 

Rackley got the Wolves on the board in the 1st inning, hitting a hard ground ball up the middle for a 2-out single that scored fellow junior Summer Castorri. In the third inning, the Wolves extended their lead off home runs by Castorri and Rackley to take a 3-0 advantage.

After Collins Hill cut the lead to 3-2 in their half of the 3rd inning, the Wolves got one run back in the 4th inning, courtesy of a 2-out single, followed by a walk and a costly throwing error by Collins Hill.

In the 5th inning, Buford worked some more 2-out magic when junior designated hitter Caroline Stanton drove a ball deep over the left field fence for a 2-run homerun. Back-to-back doubles by Sophomore Brooklyn Atha and Senior Kylie Gower added another run for the Wolves in that inning, making the score 7-2.

In the sixth inning, a sac fly by Castorri in the 6th inning and a 2-out, 2-RBI single by Sophomore Ella Pierce Hensley in the 7th inning concluded the scoring for the Wolves.

Rackley pitched around a lead-off homerun by Collins Hill in the 7th inning to seal the win for Buford.  The Wolves scored eight of their 10 runs with two outs in the inning.  

Rackley (6-0) earned her sixth win, allowing three runs on three hits and 12 strikeouts in the complete game performance. 

Ella Pierce Hensley -was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 RBIs and two stolen bases. Castorri finished the day 2 for 3 with a solo HR ( 7th of the season ), a double, and 2 RBIs. Rackley was 2 for 2, with a solo HR (9th HR on the season ), 2 walks, 2 RBIs, and Caroline Stanton finished with a 2-run home run (7th HR of the season) and 2 RBIs.


CHESTATEE 16,
GAINESVILLE 8

Savannah Petty was 3-for-5 with three RBIs to pace the War Eagles to the win over Gainesville at home on Thursday.

Chestatee jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings, with Ella Kinsey, Petty, Kaylin Thome, and Kathryn Roush all driving in runs.

Gainesville came alive in the third inning to cut the lead to 6-5. The Red Elephants scored five runs on two hits in the inning, with Brilee Keppinger, Maya Silva and Judea Hawkes all driving in runs. Amberly Ayala tied the game in the fourth inning when she was walked in. 

Chestatee grabbed back the lead at the bottom of the fourth inning, with the biggest hit coming from Lexie Moss. She drove in two runs for an 11-6 lead. 

Katherin Williams picked up the win for Chestatee, allowing eight runs on four hits over six innings. She recorded five strikeouts.
