Jackson Co. authorities release body cam footage of 2023 Colt Gray investigation

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has released body camera footage of a 2023 investigation into school threats that were tied to the teen now accused in the September 4 deadly shooting at Apalachee High School in nearby Barrow County.

Investigators went to the home of then-13-year-old Colt Gray and his father, Colin, on May 21, 2023 after receiving a tip from the FBI about a threat to "shoot up" a school. The threat was allegedly made on the online chat platform Discord.

Deputies interviewed both Colin and Colt for just under 20 minutes before ultimately determining that there was not enough evidence to issue charges against either of them.

The investigation was 18 months prior to the shooting at Apalachee High School that left four people dead and nine others injured.
