HOMER, Ga. – Dawson County got their first win of the 2024 season with a 14-7 win over Banks County Friday night.
After neither team found the endzone in the first quarter, the Tigers scratched the scoreboard on the first play of the second quarter as Preston Bannister ran in from two yards out to take a 7-0 lead. The Leopards answered on the ensuing drive as Ashton Camp capped off the seven minute drive with a 1-yard plunge to tie things up headed to halftime.
The Tigers got excellent field position to start the second half after Banks County fumbled the kickoff, allowing Bannister to find Chatham Burnett for 23 yards and the game-winning score. Dawson County stopped the Leopards three times inside Tiger territory five times in the second half, two times via interception, including a Luke Smith pick late in the game.
Banks County had just 135 rushing yards in the game, while the Tigers threw for 142 yards.
Banks County will travel to Cherokee Bluff next Friday, while the Tigers open region play against Pickens in two weeks.
