Football: White County runs past East Jackson

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Tripp Nix accounted for five touchdowns Friday night as White County took care of East Jackson in their final non-region game of the season, winning 55-27.

After Drew Richardson scored just 37 seconds into the game on an 80-yard run to give East Jackson a 7-0 lead, the Warriors scored 28 straight points, starting with a 24-yard pitch-and-catchfrom Nix to Zach Godfrey with 10:30 left in the first quarter.

Eight minutes later, Nix had his first rushing touchdown of the night from 25 yards away before plunging in from four yards out right before the end of the first quarter. White County started off the second quarter with a 75-yard punt return touchdown by Gaines Clark to take a 28-7 lead.

The Eagles fought back, scoring on a 38-yard pass from Richardson to Denim Cooper, but White County kept the foot on the gas, scoring on a Nix pass to Sawyer Gailey from 43 yards away before Nix got in from two yards away with just under two minutes to go until halftime to take a 42-14 lead.

After a field goal started the second half for the Warriors, BT Callahan kept the Eagles in touch with an 80-yard touchdown run, but Nix found Clark for 11 yards on the ensuing drive to push the score out to 52-20. Richardson had another touchdown run with nine seconds left in the game that got to the final score.

White County will open 6-3A play next week at Pickens, while East Jackson is off next week before hosting East Hall in two weeks.
