Two people were killed and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision Saturday night in eastern Franklin County.

A report issued by the Georgia State Patrol Sunday morning said the wreck happened just before 9:30 p.m. on Ga. 17 near Old Royston Road just north of Royston. Investigators said a gray Honda Civic was going southbound on Ga. 17 when it crossed the center line and hit a northbound Ford F-250 pickup truck.

The driver of the Civic, identified as Lisa Carey, age 36 of Royston, was found dead at the scene. A passenger in the F-250, Jeffrey Wayne Burns, age 51 of Lavonia, also died.

The driver of the F-250, Amy Leah Burns, age 47 of Lavonia, was seriously injured and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.

The state patrol has not released a potential reason for Carey's vehicle crossing the center line as of Sunday afternoon.
