MT. AIRY, Ga. — Habersham Central got its first win of the season, holding off rival White County, 31-28, Friday night at Raider Stadium.
The Raiders (1-2) jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the second quarter following touchdown runs from Antonio Cantrell and Paris Wilbanks.
The Warriors (0-2) pulled within 21-14 on a 9-yard scoring run by Noel Lammers but habersham pushed the lead to 24-14 on a 46-yard field goal from Camden Meads as time expired in the first half.
White County got within 24-21 early in the third on a 42-yard interception return from Zach Godfrey on the Raiders opening possession of the second half.
But Cantrell would push Habersham’s lead back to 31-21 on Cantrell’s second TD run of the game from 16-yards out.
Lammers would run in from 8-yards for his third score of the game with 6:46 left to get the Warriors within 31-28.
White County stopped the Raiders on their next possession and had a chance to tie or go for the win but a fumble with less than 3 minutes left was recovered by Habersham to seal the win.
Lammers finished with 74 yards rushing and 88 yards receiving to lead White County.
Donnie Warren paced Habersham with 106 yards rushing. Wilbanks was 14-of-25 passing for 131 yards.
