AAA to offer its "Tow to Go" program during the Labor Day extended holiday weekend

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

AAA prepares to rescue more than 300,000 drivers nationwide with car trouble during this Labor Day weekend.  It will also provide a free service to keep impaired drivers off the road.

The Auto Club Group is activating its Tow to Go program in Georgia and other select states for would-be-impaired drivers and their vehicles to provide safe travel. When someone calls AAA's Tow to Go, a tow truck is dispatched to transport the vehicle and its owner to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. This service is free, regardless of whether the caller is a AAA member.

Montrae Waiters of AAA says, "By providing this program, AAA leaves drivers with no excuse for driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol or impairing medications. However, we remind people to treat Tow to Go as a last resort. Make advanced plans for a safe ride home."

The areas covered by AAA's Tow to Go along with Georgia include, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Colorado (Denver), North Carolina (Charlotte), and Indiana (Fort Wayne/South Bend).

Some provisions with the Tow to Go program include:

  • Free and available services to AAA members and non-member
  • Provided from 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 30 to 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 3.
  • Confidential local ride for one person and their vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius of pickup location.
  • Appointments cannot be scheduled in advance to use Tow to Go. It is designed for a safety net with those who did not plan ahead; choose a designated driver before celebrating.
  • In some situations, AAA may need to make other arrangements to get an impaired individual a safe ride home.
The phone number to utilize AAA's Tow to Go is (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246.  More details can be found here.
