The president of the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce Jim Shaw has announced his plans to retire at the end of this year.
A statement issued Friday afternoon by Wanda Johnson, chair of the chamber's board of directors, said Shaw recently told the board of his intentions.
"Jim's contributions to our Chamber have been invaluable dating back to the beginning in the early 1990’s, when he and Donna moved their family to Jackson County," Johnson's statement said. "It has been a tremendous honor to work with and learn from Jim over the past 8½ years. His legacy will continue to inspire us as we build on the strong foundation he has helped lay. We thank Jim for his extraordinary service."
Shaw served as board chair in 2000 before eventually being named president in January 2016. Johnson said Shaw will remain in his current role until his successor has been named.
That search for the chamber's next president is reportedly underway.
