Investigators identify the victim and driver from the fatal weekend ATV wreck in Lumpkin County

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) has identified the victim from an ATV crash in Lumpkin County last weekend which killed one occupant and injured another passenger, with the driver facing multiple charges.

The GSP report identified the victim as 25-year old Ricky Escobar of Social Circle, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the overturned crash at Iron Mountain Resort  on Saturday, August 17 after 4:20 p.m.  He was one of five occupants of the vehicle that was doing donuts in the park when it rolled onto its side, crushing him beneath the wreckage. 

Another passenger, 37-year old Yesica Hernandez of Cartersville was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center of Gainesville for non-life threatening injuries. Two other passengers were not injured.

GSP adds that Tte driver of the ATV, 28-year old Joel Portugal of Kennesaw is charged with motor vehicle homicide, fleeing an accident scene on foot, failing to render aid to injured occupants and other violations.
