Editor for Cornelia-based Northeast Georgian publication dies unexpectedly

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

An unexpected passing among the members of the media in North Georgia on Tuesday.

Word of Matthew Osborne's passing from this past Tuesday is leaving members of Habersham County and the area in shock, as the Northeast Georgian newspaper's editor was just 47 years of age.

Social media posts from the newspaper's parent company, Community Newspaper Incorporated say that Osborne was, “always fair in his reporting, well respected in the communities he served and a friend to those in need. The CNI family is heartbroken over this tragic loss.”

Originally from Seminole, Florida, Osborne was a graduate from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and previously worked as sports reporter in Lake City (Fla.) before working as the editor and publisher of The Graham Star in North Carolina, sports editor of The Trentonian in Trenton, N.J.; and editor of the Cherokee Scout and Andrews Journal from 2014 to 2019.

The Northeast Georgian adds in their tribute to Osborne that the cause for his death has not been determined, and that services have not been scheduled, as of this report.

Matthew Osborne is survived by his wife, White County News editor Samantha Sinclair, and their three sons.
