White County Sheriff's Office warns of scams in the area

By AccessWDUN Staff

The White County Sheriff's Office issued a warning Monday of online and telephone scams in the area.

Scammers have reportedly been calling victims posing as law enforcement officers, debt collectors and bank employees to trick victims into sending them money via cryptocurrency machines. The scammers will typically  claim victims have an unpaid fine or warrant, owe money to a government agency, have a compromised bank account, or have outstanding debt that must be paid, according to the agency's Facebook page

WCSO advised the office will never call to notify anyone of warrants or outstanding citations, nor will it ask for fees to be paid via cryptocurrency machines.

Anyone who believes they may have been scammed is asked to contact the sheriff’s office immediately at 706-865-5177.
