While most kids are now back at school, there's no reason not to have fun on the weekends, and there are plenty of ways to do that in North Georgia.

CONCERTS: 

Event Name: Kings of Queens, Queen Tribute
Event Date & Time: Saturday, August 10, 8 p.m.
Event Location: The Lawn at Smithgall Arts Center, 331 Spring St., Gainesville

Event Name: Suwanee’s 20th August Concert: 10,000 Maniacs & Drivin N Cryin
Event Date & Time: Saturday, August 10, 6 p.m.
Event Location: Town Center, 330 Town Center Avenue, Suwanee
Event Details: Suwanee’s Annual August Concert is back and bigger than ever for its monumental 20th anniversary. Free admission! Get ready to rock with some fun music and high energy. Great bands and great music is the focus, but you’ll also enjoy on-site vendors. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. 

Event Name: Mad Hatters, Tom Petty Tribute
Event Date & Time: Friday, August 9, 8 p.m.
Event Location: Lou Sobh Amphitheater, Cumming
Event Details: This tribute band Is dedicated to honoring Tom Petty and his iconic music. You’ll be able to sing to your favorites like, “Free Fallin” and “American Girl. Free admission and free parking. No outside food, but bring a blanket, lawn chair and friendly dogs on a leash.

Event Name: Reckless, Bryan Adams Tribute Band
Event Date & Time: Saturday, August 10, 8 p.m.
Event Location: Lou Sobh Amphitheater, Cumming
Event Details: The Cumming City Center will come alive with the rock music as this group has a commitment to reproduce the music of Bryan Adams! Free admission. Bring a blanket, lawn chair and friendly dogs. No outside food is permitted.

Event Name: Excitable, Def Leppard Tribute
Event Date & Time: Saturday, August 10, 9:45 p.m.
Event Location: 37 Main, 37 E Main St., Buford 
Event Details: Excitable brings you a high energy tribute to Def Leppard. Relive the classic rock staples that you know, love and can sing loudly along with them all! Ages 21+ Doors open at 7 p.m.

FESTIVALS & SPECIAL EVENTS: 

Event Name: Old Friends Car Show
Event Date & Time: Saturday, August 10, 5 – 8 p.m.
Event Location: United Community Bank at Robson Center, 351 Jesse Jewell Pkwy, Gainesville
Event Details: Hot rods, muscle cars, classic trucks and more! Bring the whole family for hamburgers, hot dogs, French fires, bbq, snow cones, and live music! This event takes place on the 2nd Saturday of each month, April – October. There are prizes for the cars that win the top 15 awards. The top 2 are eligible for a $2,000 and up cash giveaway. 

Event Name: Laid Out By The Lake 
Event Date & Time: Saturday, August 10, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Event Location: Lanier Point Park, 1530 Lee Waldrip Rd., Gainesville
Event Details: Hosted by Gainesville Parks and Recreation, the community is welcome to see custom cars and bikes. It’s family friendly and free for spectators. Anyone wishing to enter their car or bike for a chance at a prize or a trophy, the cost is $25.00 at the gate. Raffles and food trucks will also be part of the fun!

Event Name: Gainesville Ghost Tours
Event Date & Time: Saturday, August 10, 8 p.m.
Event Location: Midland, Gainesville
Event Details: In collaboration with the Longstreet Society, Blackstrap Rock Hall is hosting a walking tour through Midland Gainesville. Explore the mysteries within the walls of one of Gainesville’s oldest buildings, the Piedmont Hotel, as well as other haunted locations in the neighborhood. Event Name: Movies Under the Stars 
Event Date & Time: Friday, August 9, 7 – 10 p.m. 
Event Location: 9924 Davis Stret, Braselton

Event Name: Chalk Art Festival
Event Date & Time: Friday, August 9 – Saturday, August 10, Various Times 
Event Location: Duluth Town Green and Parsons Alley 
Event Details: As part of its Art Month, Duluth will host a Chalk Art Festival. This two-day event will include live music, food truck, a chalk art contest, and a community chalk art project. For details, go to duluthga.net

Event Name: Mia Jackson Comedy 
Event Date & Time: Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 10, 8 p.m.
Event Location: Lawrenceville Arts Center, Lawrenceville
Event Details: Get ready for non-stsop laughs with Mia Jackson. She is known for touring with Amy Schumer, as well as her Comedy Central special. Tickets start at $20. Go to www.auroratheatre.com

THEATER PRODUCTIONS: 

Event Name: The Wizard of Oz
Event Date & Time: Friday, August 9 – Sunday, August 18, Weekends, Various Times
Event Location: Holly Theater, Dahlonega
Event Details: We’re off to see the wizard! It’s opening wicked of the Holly Theater’s adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale. This is rated G and a production the whole family can enjoy. Get your tickets at www.hollytheater.com.

Event Name: Aabaha Art and Theater Festival
Event Date & Time: Saturday, August 10 – Sunday, August 11, 
Event Location: Eagle Theater, 5029 W. Broad St., Sugar Hill
Event Details: This is a multilingual and multicultural event to celebrate the vibrant diversity of artistic expressions and cultural heritage of the Indian Subcontinent. This event gives a platform to locals to experience the tradition, culture and heritage of the Indian Subcontinent.
