Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield is set to recommend a name for the district’s newest elementary school to the Board of Education on August 12.
Everwood Elementary, which will combine McEver Arts Academy and Oakwood Elementary School, will be located at 5240 McEver Road. The two schools will close at the end of the 2024 -2025 school year.
The new elementary school’s name resulted from a planning committee that began meeting in February 2024. Led by HCSD’s Director of Literacy and Numeracy Matt Alexander, the committee consisted of parents, staff, and community members. The name “Everwood” aimed to combine Oakwood and McEver’s names.
In addition to the name, the Everwood Elementary School will use blue and red for its school colors, which are the two primary colors of the parent schools' branding.
"We are incredibly excited about the creation of Everwood Elementary,” Schofield said in a release. “Both Oakwood Elementary and McEver Arts Academy have rich traditions, legacies, and a history of excellence and innovation. The merging of these two schools will bring together the best of both, creating an even stronger community for our students."
No mascot has been chosen for Everwood Elementary School. The school is set to open in the fall of 2025.
