By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

Road repairs, expansion and lane configuration work is about to take shape along a portion of State Route 11 in Barrow County which will create lane restrictions for weeks and months to come.

Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and contractor G.P. Enterprises says that they will close S.R.11 (Christmas Ave.) crossing State Route 316 beginning at Gifton Thomas Road to East/West Wiseman. The grinding of concrete on S.R.11 will occur under the new bridge will commence from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. beginning Thursday, July 18th, weather permitting.  According to the GDOT press release, the work is slated to continue through March 29th.

Additional work with the signals will move traffic into a new pattern through the area. Police will be on hand, but officials still anticipate traffic delays during the work period.

Motorists are cautioned by GDOT to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers. Before heading out, you get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or downloading the Georgia 511 app.
