Passenger in Habersham County car wreck involving a deer near Hollywood has died

UPDATE: Passenger in Habersham County deer/car collision Saturday, June 29 succumbs to injuries

The victim of a Saturday collision between a vehicle and a deer in Habersham County has died.

Habersham County officials have announed that 72-year Ellen Fiorenza of Conyers died Monday afternoon, July 1, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville from injuries suffered in the June 29 wreck, according to Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire.

Fiorenza was a passenger in a Toyota Venza traveling north on Ga. 15 / Expressway 441, north of Hollywood when the collision occurred at around 12:00 p.m. Saturday.

The deer ran in front of the vehicle, struck it, and was thrown through the windshield, according to the Georgia State Patrol report.

The collision occurred near Tom Born Road.

One person was left seriously injured Saturday after a vehicle collision with a deer on Ga. 15 north of Hollywood. 

Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore said the wreck occurred at around noon near Tom Born Road.

“During the collision, the deer entered the passenger compartment of the vehicle, resulting in serious injuries to the passenger,” Moore said.

Inclement weather in the area made Habersham County-based Air Life Georgia unable to fly but the medical flight crew helped provide care to the patient on the way to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville.

The roadway was cleared at around 1:08 p.m.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the wreck.
