By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

Gainesville’s first “eatertainment” venue is set to host its Grand Opening celebration on July 12.

Decoy, located in the newly renovated Historic Jackson Building on the Gainesville Square, combines its restaurant and bar with several gaming experiences

Rand Carswell, owner of Decoy, shared with AccessWDUN the restaurant will have several up-scale menu items such as steak, fresh pasta, and seafood, as well as several shareable dishes that can be ordered while patrons play games. Those menu items will include duck sliders and the as-seen -on Food Network Mac n’ Cheese balls featured at Carswell’s first restaurant,The Chattahoochee Grill in Gainesville.

Carswell highlighted the venue will have several games available for patrons to reserve to play, some of which integrate technological components to enhance the players’ experience.

“We have three different experiences inside of there,” Carwell said.  “One is the golf simulators, which are built out for golfers…You can pick from several different courses around the country- stuff that you probably wouldn't be able to get a tee time at- you'll be able to be there and play with your friends. But, the other cool thing about the simulators is it's not just golf. So it has about 13 other sports attached to it”

The golf simulators will also allow visitors to play football, basketball, baseball, and several hunting simulation games.

Decoy will also offer duckpin bowling and high-tech mini golf.

“I have a blast with this, it is very challenging,” Carswell noted. “And it's not what people typically think of when they think of put-put.. It is all tech infused, you do not keep your score, it keeps it for you.”

The mini golf experience will also be able to give players insights on their techniques and add challenges, such as hazard areas, to each game.

The restaurant will also offer the option to rent a private dining room in the area, intended to host corporate meetings and larger parties.

The Grand Opening event will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, reception, and live music to follow that evening.

The ceremony will take place from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Decoy’s location at the Historic Walton Jackson Building, at 123 Green Street NW, Gainesville, GA 30501.

The venue will be open from 11 a.m. until midnight Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday.

Decoy’s opening reportedly created over 75 jobs within the community.
