Rabun County Superior Court Judge Russell Smith appointed Chief Deputy Elizabeth Darnell on Monday, June 17 to carry out the responsibilities of the Rabun County Sheriff during Sheriff Chad Nichols's suspension.
Governor Brian Kemp issued an executive order Friday suspending Nichols following his May 31 arrest on charges of sexual battery, public indecency and violation of oath by a public officer.
Nichols' suspension will reportedly last 60 days according to Executive Order 06.03.24.01.
