Hall County schools propose nearly 8% property tax increase

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The Hall County Board of Education has announced intentions to raise property taxes by nearly 8 percent for the coming year.

A release from the school district Friday said the board is planning a millage rate of 15.640 mills. With property assessments in Hall County largely continuing to see increases, the board would have needed to roll the millage rate back to 14.486 mills in order to maintain a steady tax rate.

The new millage rate is included the Hall County School District's proposed 2024 budget. Three public hearings will be held at the school district's central office building on Green Street in Gainesville over the next month before the budget and millage rate are approved. The dates and times for the public hearings are listed below:

  • Monday, June 24 at 11:30 a.m.
  • Monday, June 24 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Monday, July 15 at 6:00 p.m.

The projected property tax increase is 7.97 percent.
