Gwinnett County officials broke ground Thursday on Discovery Park in Lawrenceville.

A press release from Gwinnett County said the park will be 45 acres and will feature an inclusive playground, open green spaces, a ride Gwinnett bus stop, shaded picnic pavilions and much more.

“Gwinnett’s parks offer more than slides and swings — they create spaces that welcome and embrace everyone,” Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson said. “With Discovery Park’s inclusive playground and diverse amenities, we’re working to ensure that every member of our community can enjoy the great outdoors safely and comfortably.”

Discovery Park will also feature an interactive fountain, a multipurpose sports field and two 3-on-3 soccer pitches.

A lighted 12-foot wide multiuse trail will encircle the park.

“I look forward to seeing our residents enjoy leisure, friendly competition, family bonding and much more at Discovery Park,” District 1 Commissioner Kirkland Carden said. “I’m proud that our County continues to prioritize people with an ongoing commitment to quality resources like our parks and trails.”

The Gwinnett County SPLOST program funded the $28.5 million project.

The park is expected to open to the public in 2026.
