Lightning strike causes restaurant fire in Gwinnett County Tuesday

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

Gwinnett County Emergency and Firefighter officials say a lightning strike is the cause for an evening fire at a Lawrenceville restaurant Tuesday.

Evergency crews were called to a business fire at Sonny’s BBQ at the intersection of Duluth Highway and Hurricane Shoals Road at around 8:00 p.m. to discover a portion of the structure was fully involved in flames coming through the building's roof.

None of the workers or patrons inside the restaurant were hurt, as everone was evacuated safely before Gwinnett County emergency units arrived.

Gwinnett officials needed almost an hour to contain the fire.  Extent of the damage to the restaurant's building remains under investigation.
