ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia Tech will get a chance at redemption against its arch-rival in the NCAA tournament.
The Jackets dispatched UNC- Wilmington 3-1 in the elimination round on Sunday in the Athens Regional at Foley Field. That puts them in the regional finals against host Georgia.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Foley Field.
Georgia beat the Jackets twice during the regular.
Georgia Tech (33-24) will have to beat the Bulldogs in two games to advance to next week’s Super Regional. A Georgia win on Sunday moves the Bulldogs into their first Super Regional since 2008.
Against UNC- Wilmington, Georgia Tech fell behind 1-0 in the third before answering to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. The Jackets grabbed the lead in the fourth on a two-run home run from Mike Becchetti.
The two teams had to wait out a two-hour rain delay before holding off the Seahawks in the ninth. Dawson Brown pitched the final two innings, striking out three, to get the save.
