Gainesville's Memorial Day Parade has been canceled amid ongoing thunderstorms in the area.
Paul E. Bolding American Legion Post 7 Commander Andre Castleberry told AccessWDUN that officials had initially planned to postpone the start of the event to 11:00 a.m., but continuing rain and storms forced the decision to cancel.
"Safety concerns and weather are the reasons," a social media post by the American Legion post said.
Gainesville Police Lt. Kevin Holbrook confirmed the cancellation Monday morning.
