ROME Ga. — Heavy rains that moved through the Rome area on Saturday forced the postponement of the Cherokee Bluff-Starr's Mill Class 4A state championship series at AdventHealth Stadium in Rome.
The series now will open on Monday. First pitch for an opening doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m.
"It is what it is," Cherokee Bluff coach Jeremy Kemp said after a lengthy discussion with representatives of Georgia High School Association and Starr's Mill head coach Brent Moseley around 6:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon. "You can't do anything about the weather."
On Saturday, both teams were on the field warming up when heavy rains hit the area at 4:40 p.m.
The games were delayed for 90 minutes before the GHSA announced the postponement of the games.
However, there was no mention of where a possible Game 3 of the series, if needed, would be played. Kemp said the Game 3 situation should be determined on Monday.
The Rome Emperors, the Class A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, are scheduled to return home to begin a series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Tuesday.
