By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

Lanier Islands will be hosting a variety of  indoor and outdoor events throughout Memorial Day weekend.

“Memorial Day Weekend serves as the unofficial kickoff to summer for many, so we’ve pulled out all the stops on nearly every acre of the resort,” Matthew Bowling, Vice President of Lanier Islands, said. “Whether lounging poolside at Legacy Lodge or being among the first to experience Georgia's first adrenaline-fueled water slide coaster – Apocalypso, we offer a lot of different ways for our guests to design a holiday weekend that fits their unique tastes and personalities. At the core of it all is a spirit of patriotism to remember and honor the brave men and women of the U.S. military and the sacrifices they made to keep our great nation the land of the free.”

The events will begin on Friday, May 24 and continue until Monday, May 27.  Some activities planned at Lanier Islands include the following:

  • Fireworks over Lake Lanier – Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27

  • Live music by the Legacy Lodge pool - Friday, May 24; Saturday, May 25; and Sunday, May 26

  • Legacy Lodge Poolside Grill Out – Saturday, May 25

  • Poolside Movies at Legacy Lodge – Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25

The resort will also have live music throughout the weekend, with performances by Rick Stone, Hunter Flannigan and Chain Reaction.  Rick Stone will play Saturday, May 25 from 7 to 10 p.m. Hunter Flanigan  will perform Sunday, May 25 from 7 to 10 p.m. and Chain Reaction will play on Monday, May 27 from 7 to 10 p.m.

Lanier Island’s Game Changer Indoor Fun Center, which features Arcade Games, Virtual Sports Suites, Ax Throwing, Escape Rooms and more will also be open on May 24 and 25 from noon until 11 p.m., and from noon to 10 p.m. on May 26 and 27.

Additionally, Lanier Island’s newly rebranded Fins Up! Waterpark inside Margaritaville will debut its Apocalypso water coaster along with three other waterslides in the same complex. Spanning 418 feet, the water coaster has the most significant drop of its kind in the country.

Apocalypso will share the spotlight with Serpentine Storm , featuring several rotations combined with a downward-spiraling descent, Dreamsicle Dive, offering high-intensity fun with closed and open tubes, and Mango Mania, which is perfect for younger water slide lovers.
