Baseball scoreboard: NHall, EaFo eliminated from state playoffs

Cherokee Bluff swept Seckinger to win the Region 8-4A championship on the road Tuesday. 

The fifth-ranked Bears were the only North team to make the Class 4A playoffs. 

Meanwhile, both North Hall (20-7) and East Forsyth (19-9) lost both doubleheaders to miss the state playoffs.

The Trojans fell behind early in Game 1, 4-1, and couldn’t recover. Walnut Grove, however, added four runs in the fifth inning to extend its lead to 8-1. North Hall scored two runs in the fifth and tried to make it interesting in the bottom of the seventh, closing the gap, 9-6, but left two on. 

In Game 2, three runs off two doubles and a fielder’s choice put the Warriors ahead 3-0. In the fifth, Luke Sanders and Jon Jon Read scored two runs off a double to cut into the Warriors' lead, 3-2. They tied the game in the sixth when Micah Jimerson singled to left field. 

But Walnut Grove went ahead in the bottom of the inning on a Carter Hodges single. 

North Hall left runners at the corners in the top of the seventh. 

In Bogart, Ga., East Forsyth left nine runners stranded in a 5-0 loss to North Oconee in Game 1. The Titans scored five runs on five hits to take the win. 

In Game 2, the Titans slowly built their lead over the first four innings, going ahead 5-0. They added one more run in the sixth inning. 

The Broncos found home plate in the fifth inning, with Makayle Moon scoring on a Titan error. They tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring two runs.
