College baseball: Georgia's Condon has big night; Bulldogs beat Missouri

By AccessWDUN Staff

ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia's Charlie Condon had another massive night on the diamond, blasting two home runs to help the Bulldogs beat Missouri, 15-10, at Foley Field on Thursday.

The All-American hit a pair of home runs and drove in five to lead Georgia (26-8, 6-7 SEC East) at the plate. It was Condon's (4-for-4, 2 HR, 2 BB, 5 RBI) NCAA-leading 22nd and 23rd home runs, giving him 48 for his career. His first home run went a season-long 457 feet. It also marked the fourth time he has had a multi-home run game this season.

“It goes to show the importance of not taking at-bats or pitches off,” Condon said. “No matter who you are playing in the SEC, they are going to give you a full fight for nine innings. It shows the discipline of this team. Even if you get up 10 runs in the sixth inning, it is far from over. There is plenty of ball to be played.”

Buford's Jarvis Evans tied his career-high with 5 1/3 innings and set a career-high with nine strikeouts, including six in a row at one point, to earn a win and improve to 3-1.

“The biggest thing is helping my guys out and trying to be as efficient as possible,” Evans said. “Nobody wants to sit around and watch walk after walk, so if I can get us off the field and get our athletes up to the plate like All-American Charlie Condon, you have a chance to win the ball game. I am competing the best I can every single pitch.”

Eight of Georgia's nine starters had at least one hit, and seven drove in at least one run.

“I don’t care what the score is or how ugly it was; wins in this league are hard,” said Georgia coach Wes Johnson. “It doesn’t matter what their record is or who they are, and you have to be ready every inning of every game in the SEC.”

Graduate Josh Roberge registered a pair of strikeouts with the bases loaded in the sixth and the Bulldogs holding an 11-6 lead. Bulldog pitchers combined to strike out 17 Tigers.

The Missouri series continues Friday with the first pitch at 6:02 p.m. and will be available on SECN+ and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
