A man from Franklin, North Carolina, is facing charges after a weekend bar fight in Rabun County.

A press release from the Rabun County Sheriff's Office said that the incident happened at the Route 76 Road House Bar and Grill in the 1500 block of Highway 76 in Clayton just after midnight Saturday.

Stephen Higbee, 37, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery after that incident, which left Kenneth Lunn, 40, of Clayton, with injuries.

Patrons from the bar called 911 after a fight broke out between the two men in the parking lot of the bar. Higbee reportedly left the scene before law enforcement arrived, while Lunn remained on scene and awaited treatment from EMS.

"Lunn, who deputies noted appeared to be intoxicated and antagonistic, was briefly examined by Rabun County Emergency Medical Services before being asked to exit the ambulance due to his unruly behavior," the release reads.

The owner of the bar and other witnesses said Lunn was acting inappropriately with women on the dance floor. Lunn was then escorted out of the building by the house disc jockey. The DJ then returned inside to "calm a group that wanted to fight Lunn in the parking lot."

Higbee was located by the Clayton Police Department a short distance from the business and was subsequently arrested on unrelated traffic offenses.

A family member of Lunn's contacted the Sheriff's Office later that morning and told authorities that Lunn's jaw was broken on both sides.

A follow-up investigation by sheriff's office investigators led to aggravated battery charges being taken out against Higbee. Higbee then turned himself in at the Rabun County Detention Center.

"Inappropriate behavior or altercations with other patrons should be immediately reported to law enforcement," Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols said. "Let my deputies sort out what happened instead of taking matters into your own hands."

Anyone with additional information about the fight is asked to call the Rabun County Sheriff's Office at (706) 960-9745.
