Sawnee EMC celebrating Lineman Appreciation Day on Monday

By AccessWDUN Staff

On Monday, April 8, Sawnee EMC invites everyone to pause and take a moment to appreciate the linemen in their communities for Lineman Appreciation Day.

Lineman Appreciation Day is an acknowledgment of the difficult work that linemen do each and every day.

Their commitment to keeping the lights on takes them into dangerous situations on the best of days but even on the worst days, they are out doing their jobs.

In all types of weather, including extreme heat and cold, linemen come together and rise to the occasion,  performing difficult work in high-stress environments.

“Throughout the year, line crews support daily member needs, such as repairing streetlights in subdivisions, as well as projects that will help modernize and strengthen our distribution system to improve reliability and resiliency,” Blake House, Vice President of Member Services said, “Sawnee EMC linemen perform work that ensures power flows to vital infrastructure such as hospitals and water treatment facilities and to everyday home conveniences – always keeping safety top of mind.”

"Our linemen are the steady hand leading into, throughout, and after a storm. They serve our communities during emergencies, ensuring our members’ electricity is restored swiftly and, more importantly, safely,” Chet Blackstock, Vice President of Operations said. “Our linemen play an indispensable role in the life of our community. Without their exceptional dedication and commitment, we would lack the dependable electricity essential for everyday life.”

On Apr. 8, or any time you see linemen doing their job, take the time to say thank you for keeping the power flowing and use #ThankALineman on social media.
