A Gainesville woman was arrested Friday and charged with murder for the June 2023 death of her 13-year-old son after he overdosed on fentanyl belonging to the woman.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said in a press release Monday morning that Holly Deanna Sosebee, 30, remained in the Hall County Jail without bond as of Monday.

Her son, Landon Nicholas Sosebee, 13, was found dead in their family home on Lee Street on June 8, 2023. His death was labeled as "suspicious" at the time due to the victim's age.

His body was then sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for autopsy. That autopsy listed Landon's official cause of death as "combined toxic effects of fentanyl and xylazine."

The investigation determined the illegal narcotics belonged to his mother, and she had left them in an unsecured area where they were easily accessible to the victim.

As a result, Holly was charged with murder in the second degree and cruelty to children in the second degree, both felony offenses.
