Forsyth County to offer annual Junior Fire Academy

By AccessWDUN Staff

Forsyth County is set to offer its annual Junior Fire Academy for rising seventh and eighth graders.

The Forsyth County Fire Department is inviting county students to sign up for the week-long Junior Fire Academy for students entering seventh and eighth grade this fall. The camp will be held Monday, June 17, through Friday, June 21, according to officials.

The camp reportedly provides participants with education and experience surrounding the job of a firefighter. Areas of learning include firefighting, search-and-rescue practices, EMS and more.

“The Junior Fire Academy creates a level of excitement and activity that echoes the life of a true firefighter,” Fire Chief Barry Head said. “Students have the opportunity to learn lessons about teamwork, responsibility and leadership that will take them far beyond this camp.”

The academy will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Fire Department Headquarters at the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex, located at 3520 Settingdown Road. Attending children must be picked up by 4 p.m. daily.

Program space is limited, officials said Friday. Those interested must submit a completed application by April 26. That application is available online by clicking here.
