Gwinnett County authorities warning of weekend traffic impacts near CoolRay Field

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

Baseball fanatics and commuters in Gwinnett County are about to have something in common:  Both will be going BANANAS around unincorporated Lawrenceville's CoolRay Field for the next few days.

That's because the world-renowned Savannah Bananas are in town for their Banana Ball 2024 World Tour, with three games at CoolRay Field Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Social media posts by Gwinnett County Police remind residents south of Buford, north of Lawrenceville and countywide that they should expect heavy traffic congestion around Coolray Field for the Bananas' three-game series. The sold-out games will draw thousands of fans.

Officials expect State Route 20 and 316, as well as Interstate 85 and surrounding roads to experience increased traffic.

Games on Friday night and Saturday night begin at 7:00 p.m., with Sunday's matinee to start at 1:00 p.m.. Law enforcement anticipates this will create heavy traffic flow to these roadways and side streets for hours before and after the games.

Gwinnett Police and CoolRay Field officials ask that attendees and commuters plan accordingly, allow for ample travel time, and explore alternate route options.
