By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A Gainesville man was arrested over the weekend after reportedly leading authorities on a chase through White and Hall counties.

A social media post by the White County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened early Sunday morning when deputies tried to pull over a white Kia on U.S. 129 South. The Kia reportedly fled, leading deputies on a chase towards Hall County.

White County deputies reportedly performed a PIT maneuver on the vehicle on U.S. 129 near the county line, but the driver was able to regain control of the vehicle and continued fleeing into Hall County. He eventually crashed on Clarks Bridge Road and was arrested after a brief foot chase.

The driver was identified as Derrance Reshand Damons, age 43. The White County sheriff's office reported that guns and a large amount of illegal drugs including cocaine and fentanyl were located in Damons' vehicle.

Damons was booked into the White County Jail, where he remained as of Wednesday afternoon. He faces charges including fleeing, driving without a license, possession of cocaine and trafficking fentanyl.
