Chattahoochee Riverkeeper recently announced that the second annual Waterfest will return to Gainesville on Apr. 20 at the Midland Greenway from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Waterfest is a free, family-friendly music festival featuring local talents and several of Gainesville’s favorite North Georgia vendors.
The event, presented by Reduce and with special thanks to the City of Gainesville Parks & Recreation and Department of Water Resources, is also hosting an Environmental Expo. Attendees can connect with organizations doing work in the area and participate in a nature-centric silent auction.
The auction will include unique experiences and items, such as rain barrels that have been hand-painted by local artists. Bidding will be conducted online, making it virtually accessible to anyone.
Waterfest is excited to host musical acts Scott Low & The Southern Bouillon, The Jesse Williams Band, and Heart of Pine on stage.
“We are very excited to bring back this one-of-a-kind event,” said Mallory Pendleton, the festival organizer and CRK’s Headwaters Outreach Manager. “Waterfest is a celebration of our conservation efforts and a reminder that CRK’s work would not be possible without support from the community, fellow organizations, and the City of Gainesville. Pack a lawn chair and picnic blanket and come out for a fun afternoon!”
Thanks to support from sponsors and donors, the proceeds from Waterfest will go toward supporting CRK’s many efforts around north Georgia, like co-managing the Lake Lanier Aquatic Learning Center - one of only two “floating classroom” experiences in the state of Georgia.
The floating classroom enables CRK to provide on-the-water environmental education for students and teachers.
The Gainesville-based environmental advocacy group has been serving north Georgia for thirty years, testing water quality, hosting trash cleanups, conducting research and providing education to the community as part of their mission to protect the Chattahoochee watershed for all the people and wildlife who depend on it.
