Hall County to adjust district lines for seven elementary schools

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The Hall County School District has announced that it will be adjusting district lines for seven elementary schools in the county over the next two academic years to account for population shifts.

The moves were recently announced on the county's website, and will not affect districting for any of the county's middle and high schools.

"What's driving this is we currently have somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,950 seats available in the elementary schools," Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield said in a recent video posted on the county's website. "Almost all of those seats are in the north and in the east, while we have other schools in the south and the west that are busting at the seams."

The full list of district shifts announced by the school system is below:

  • 118 students being re-districted from Oakwood Elementary to Martin Elementary (effective 2025-2026)
  • 79 students being re-districted from McEver Arts Academy to Sardis Elementary (effective 2025-2026)
  • 75 students being re-districted from Myers Elementary to Sugar Hill Academy (effective 2024-2025)
  • 49 students being re-districted from Sugar Hill Academy to Tadmore Elementary (effective 2024-2025)
  • 41 students being re-districted from Sardis Elementary to Lanier Elementary (effective 2024-2025)

Those moves come in addition to the upcoming closures of Riverbend Elementary and White Sulphur Elementary as the two schools are being consolidated into Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary School in the northeast part of the county in August 2024.

Information from the county said students who fall under the areas set to be re-districted will automatically be enrolled in their newly-districted school in the effective year, unless their parents complete a form to request their child remain at their current school. Those forms must be completed and sent to the school district by June 15 of 2024 or 2025, depending on when the district changes are taking effect.

The county has already held one public hearing regarding the district changes. A second public hearing will be held March 25.
