Apartment fire displaces 20 residents in Gwinnett County

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

An apartment complex fire in Norcross on Wednesday afternoon has displaced 20 residents, with the cause under investigation.

A release from Gwinnett County Fire Department says their firefighters responded at 1:12 p.m. to reports of an apartment complex fire along the 1100 block of  Forest Vale Drive.

The 911 caller advised there was a fire in one of the apartments.  Upon arrival, crews found a working fire in a first-floor unit extending into the attic space.

Firefighters checked in the adjacent apartments and found fire, smoke and water damage.

Once the fire was controlled, Gwinnett Fire officials found heavy damage in all four apartment units on the right side of the building due to the fire extending into the shared wall and the attic.

While no injuries were reported, Red Cross authorities were called in to assist the 20 displaced residents from the complex. Investigators determined the fire originated from the first-floor apartment unit. The cause is believed to have electrical and accidental in nature.
