By Logan Landers Anchor/Reporter

The Gainesvile City School System announced at their board meeting last night that Horizon Academy will soon move to 332 Washington Street in downtown Gainesville.

The property was once the home for Gainesville High School in the 1930's and was commonly known as the Gym of '36.

The school system is purchasing the former HOMESTAR Financial Services building from Wes Hunt for $10.6 Million Dollars.

ESPLOST VI excess receipts will be used to pay off the bond over the next 10 years.

“Mr. Hunt has done an amazing job over the last decade improving the quality of the building and having it near-ready for our transition. Having served more than 225 students this year, we look forward to providing a flexible, non-traditional graduation solution for our students," said Superintendent of Gainesville City Schools Dr. Jeremy Williams.

The location will not only serve as the location of the new charter school but will also house academic and student support services personnel on the first floor.

Superintendent Williams said about a potential move in date that "our goal is in May, we will we will start the process of issuing the bonds that will come back up for another board vote and then in June and July, we will start to move in some renovations that will likely began on that third floor in May and it'll be ready come August."
