GCPS to unveil Play 2 Learn On the Go Program Bus

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

An early- development educational program will soon be driving its way through Gwinnett County neighborhoods.

Gwinnett County Public Schools will host a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday  for the Play 2 Learn On the Go Program Bus, a mobile version of the Play 2 Learn program.

The ribbon cutting will be held in the parking lot of the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center, 437 Old Peachtree Rd NW Suwanee, GA, at 2 p.m.

The new learning vehicle  was made possible through Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation’s Gwinnett Building Babies’ Brains grant through the United Way. Gwinnett County Public Schools donated the bus that will be used for the program.

Play 2 Learn is a program offered at GCPS elementary schools that serves children from the newborn stage up until age five. The program aims to guide parents and caregivers in becoming their child’s first teacher, to better prepare them for primary schooling.

“This bus will provide families with a transportation barrier the opportunity to access the high-quality Play 2 Learn program in their community,” Kim Holland, GCPS’s executive director of early learning and school readiness shared in a release. “We plan to take the bus into the Meadowcreek and Norcross clusters for the first six weeks. It will make regular stops at identified churches, apartments, and other community centers that are walkable during the day. After the first six-week program, the bus will move to the Shiloh and South clusters.”
